The 6th generation of the Porsche 911 Turbo was presented as a world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show on February 28, 2006.
In 30 years, the 911 Turbo has almost doubled its power while at the same time becoming much more maneuverable to drive by ordinary mortals. Formerly reserved for an elite of thrill-seekers and gifted with a good shot, the great German GT now behaves with a finger every day, just as it can surprise more than one circuit. Even faster, easier and more comfortable everywhere, the 911 turbo is a GT ultra modern, perfectly suited to everyday use, provided you know how to dose his right foot not to lose his license at the end of the line right…
Externally, the 911 Turbo is immediately different from standard models, as it has always been. The Turbo is entitled to its small amenities well to it: specific shield, rear spoiler, rear axle widened, air intakes on the flanks.
Using a new technique at the time on a standard gasoline engine, the Flat 6 of the 911 is equipped with a double turbocharging by variable geometry tubocompressor. Designed with Borg-Wagner (formerly KKK) the “VTG” (variable turbine geometry) uses materials extremely resistant to high temperatures of exhaust gases up to 1000 ° C. With mobile fins, only one of these VGT combines the the benefits of double-stage turbocharging with a small turbo for low revs and a boost for high-rev power. The result is unmatched engine flexibility and no turbo response time. The power obtained on the 6 cylinders flat of 3L6 is remarkable: 480 hp at 6000 rpm (60 hp more than the 996 turbo) but especially a gigantic torque of 620Nm (against 560) continuously available from 1950 to 5000 r / min.
The 997 Turbo will be marketed either in 6-speed manual gearbox or 5-speed Tiptronic.
