Porsche 911

Colonel Rodden retained the Porsche for an extraordinary 35 years, maintaining it with the meticulous attention one might expect from a career military officer. The accompanying history file contains an impressive record of servicing and maintenance carried out throughout his custodianship, together with a touching letter from his son explaining the decision to part with the family Porsche following his father’s passing.
The car was then exported to Southern Ireland and was subsequently sold to a Porsche Club member who embarked on a sympathetic restoration with specialists there, over a two-year period to bring the car back to its former glory.
Officially imported to the UK in 2010, we assisted with the registration and sale at that time, and it has remained in the UK since. Purchased in 2017 by its last owner to form part of a larger collection, it has been in dry storage with minimal use until July 2026, when it was entrusted to Sporting & Historic, who charged £9,723.41 to prepare the car for sale.
When we last sold the car in 2010, it was a very solid and sweet driving example. However, with little use since, when the opportunity arose to purchase the car again, understandably, we approached it with caution. We needn’t have worried; the dry storage combined with recent mechanical refurbishment means this little car is actually better than we remember and certainly sits up there as a very useable, pretty and solid example.
Our thoughts
They always say the original is best, and whilst Porsche has sought to improve the on-limit handling of these cars over the years, with each reiteration, they have actually diluted that pure delicacy that is to be found in these original short wheelbase cars.
It is no coincidence that anyone who has been behind the wheel of a 911 SWB on track, comes out with a grin from ear to ear.
So, one of the prettiest 911s to be produced, great to drive, a car you can take anywhere to arrive in style, and finally a sound investment.
