The vehicle in detail

From its first completed commission in 2009, Singer Vehicle Design has grown from a modest workshop in Sun Valley, California, led by former Catherine Wheel frontman Rob Dickinson, into a company of nearly 700 people; its 500th restoration was completed in 2025, and its order book now extends through 2029. This remarkable growth has been driven by an unwavering devotion to the air-cooled 911, with each car meticulously reimagined from a 964-generation donor chassis to the personalized specification of its owner, pairing the beloved “long-nose” look of the early 911 with precision engineering and carbon-fiber bodywork. Targa reimaginings remain among the rarest of Singer’s commissions, with the first example completed only in 2016.

The car offered here began life as a 1990 911 Carrera 4 Targa. Its CARFAX Vehicle History Report opens in November 1993 and traces two decades of continuous California history in the hands of owners who clearly drove the car as Porsche intended. By April 2013, the odometer had reached an impressive 153,470 miles, with no accidents or damage reported. Few donor cars enter their second life having so thoroughly fulfilled their first, and fewer still are then specified to the level seen here.

Reimagined by Singer’s Classic services as the “Coconut Grove Commission,” chassis number 460709 is finished in Singer Racing White with Satin White wheel centers and ghosted side stripes with Rubystone lettering, a quiet combination neatly offset by the stayfast canvas Ruby Targa. The carbon fiber bodywork wears the specification with restraint, adorned with carefully judged accents such as the Milky Nickel trim and Rubystone-finished Brembo brake calipers visible behind the spokes.

The cabin continues the theme, swathed in Dark Plum leather and bespoke woven leather inserts covering nearly every interior surface, from the lightweight carbon fiber racing bucket seats to the dashboard, door cards, and floor mats. The seat backs and lower cabin surfaces are color-matched in Singer Racing White, tying the interior to the exterior, while Rubystone-faced dials with Pale Pink markings and nickel-plated hardware complete this one-of-a-kind interior.

Behind the cabin sits the naturally aspirated “Motorsports” 4.0-liter air-cooled flat-six—the largest engine offered through Singer’s restoration services and believed to be one of 30 Classics so equipped—here breathing through optional champagne velocity stacks and exhaling through the optional titanium muffler system. Paired with a six-speed manual transmission, it delivers the mechanical immediacy that defined the air-cooled era, refined rather than reinvented, and all the more vivid with the Targa top stowed.

Showing a mere 55 miles since reimagining at the time of cataloging and offered from original ownership, the Coconut Grove Commission is offered in effectively as-delivered condition. For the collector who admires Singer’s work but was unable to secure an allocation before the Singer Classic order book was closed, this Porsche 911 Targa Reimagined by Singer arrives complete, considered, and ready to be driven.
