1982 Porsche 911 SC Targa – Two-Owner, Original-Paint, California Survivor with 65,730 Miles!
Introduced in 1978, the 3.0-liter 911 SC became the second-generation base 911, reviving the “SC” designation last used on the 356. No Carrera variants were offered in this era, with the 930 Turbo remaining the range-topping model.
This exceptional 1982 911 SC Targa is an original-paint California car with just 65,730 documented miles.
Delivered new on January 28, 1982, at Rule Dale Auto Plaza in Modesto, California, it was a surprise gift from Rick to his wife Judy. She cherished it as her pride and joy for more than four decades as the sole owner until 2022, when it passed to its second caretaker.
A genuine time capsule, the Targa was driven gently and maintained meticulously, with service records stretching back to its first day on the road.
The body retains its original Porsche Black (700-9-2) factory paint on every panel, with only minor touch-up work on the front hood. Paint-meter readings are consistent throughout and available upon request. Despite more than four decades of California sunshine, the finish remains remarkably well-preserved. Body gaps and shut lines are excellent; the car shows no evidence of accidents and is completely free of corrosion. Light rock chips on the nose and hood have been left untouched to preserve the car’s honest, original character.
Under second ownership (in 2022) the car received a small number of carefully chosen, period-correct upgrades. Brand-new (not restored) OEM seats in the very rare pinstripe pattern were fitted, along with the correct brand-new 1982 OEM radio, OEM H4 headlights, and wider 7- and 8-inch Fuchs wheels finished by Weidman in RS/R style. The car was also lowered to the desirable Euro-spec ride height.
All original components removed during these improvements will be included with the sale, ensuring complete originality can be restored if desired.
The black interior remains in very good condition overall. The Targa top is free of rips or tears and seals tightly with no excessive wind noise.
Mechanically the car is outstanding. It runs, drives, shifts, and brakes exactly as a well-sorted 911 should. The 915 five-speed transmission feels precise (new bushings), the car pulls strongly through the gears, and the overall feel is tight and confidence-inspiring.
Accompanying the car are the complete factory tool kit, air compressor (still in its box), jack, date-coded spare, and even the original Porsche emergency gloves still sealed in their wrapper.
The original owner’s manual and fully stamped service book are also included. A low-mileage, two-owner, original-paint California 911 SC Targa with continuous documentation, thoughtful period upgrades, and all original parts retained—an increasingly scarce opportunity for the discerning collector and enthusiast.
