Originally delivered new in Germany, the car was relocated to Algeciras, southern Spain, in 1982, where it remained for the next four decades. Benefiting from the region’s warm and relatively dry climate, it has been remarkably well preserved and provided an excellent foundation for restoration.
Approximately three years ago, we sourced the car in Catalonia, near Barcelona. Having spent several decades off the road, our goal was to preserve the authenticity that makes an early Porsche 928 so special.
As a workshop dedicated to the Porsche 928, with more than ten restoration projects continuously underway, we know these cars inside and out. Every stage of this project was completed in-house by technicians who work exclusively on the model. No shortcuts were taken, and every decision was guided by originality, reliability and long-term preservation.
The restoration began with a complete disassembly of the vehicle, allowing every component to be carefully inspected before work commenced. The body was restored and refinished in Glasurit 027 Indischrot, faithfully matching the original factory colour. The underside, suspension and mechanical components were then meticulously cleaned using the dry-ice blasting process, preserving original finishes while removing decades of accumulated dirt and grease.
Special attention was paid to preserving the features unique to the earliest production cars. The original removable battery tray, specific to the 1978 model year before Porsche adopted a welded design in 1979, was carefully restored and retained as an important element of the car’s originality.
Mechanically, the engine was removed from the chassis to allow the work to be completed to the highest standard. The cylinder heads were completely rebuilt, including machining, new head gaskets and all associated seals. The engine bay was thoroughly cleaned and detailed before the engine was reinstalled. As part of the mechanical recommissioning, a new timing belt and water pump were also installed. The suspension and braking systems were comprehensively restored to ensure the car performs exactly as Porsche intended.
The restoration includes:
- Complete vehicle disassembly
- Professional body restoration
- Repaint in Glasurit 027 Indischrot
- Dry-ice cleaning of the chassis and mechanical components
- Restoration of the original early-production removable battery tray
- Engine removed from the chassis
- Complete cylinder head overhaul
- Cylinder head machining
- New head gaskets and upper engine seals
- New timing belt
- New water pump
- Detailed engine bay restoration
- Complete brake system restoration
- Suspension restoration
- Four new tyres
The car retains its original matching-numbers chassis, engine and 5-speed manual gearbox.
Although no complete service history accompanies the vehicle, every indication strongly suggests that the indicated 106,500 kilometres are genuine. The originality of the mechanical components, the condition of the drivetrain and, above all, the remarkable preservation of the interior all support this conclusion.
The original Black & White Pasha interior remains beautifully preserved and displays the honest patina expected from a carefully maintained Porsche approaching fifty years old.
Particularly noteworthy is the original dashboard, which remains in outstanding condition with no cracks or deformation—an increasingly rare feature on early Porsche 928s. The seats, carpets, door panels and interior trim have likewise survived remarkably well, reinforcing the impression of a low-mileage, carefully preserved example.
This restoration reflects our philosophy when approaching an early Porsche 928: preserve originality wherever possible, replace only what is necessary, and restore every mechanical component to the standard Porsche originally intended.
Early-production Porsche 928s have become increasingly sought after by collectors, particularly examples retaining their original specification, matching-numbers and rare factory options.
Combining chassis #1062, its striking Indian Red over Black & White Pasha colour combination, the desirable 5-speed manual transmission, the distinctive single driver’s side mirror, and a comprehensive restoration carried out by Porsche 928 specialists, this car represents a rare opportunity to acquire an exceptional early Porsche 928, ready to be enjoyed for decades to come.
