The replica RS market is a successful one, as visually, not much differs from the standard model in coupe form. Where the modified market become more interesting is when the buyer wants something that Porsche never actually produced. This example we have for sale started life as a standard 964 Carrera 4 Targa when its original owner at the time wanted to blend some of Porsches motorsport components with a targa body shell to create a raw RS feel but with the open top experience and security of 4-wheel drive. It has followed a similar ideology in not only having minor RS visual upgrades, notably the air ducts on the front bumper, but has also been treated to 964 RS suspension and a 993 RS brake conversion system, along with a pair of Recaro pole position bucket seats with Schroth harnesses and the classic momo prototipo steering wheel to ensure confident control. RS doorcards and aluminium pedals were added and the front boot compartment was stripped like you’d see in an RS lightweight. He also opted to have genuine BBS wheels fitted to the car as these have been the wheel of choice for Porsche in Motorsport for years and were certainly used in period in place of the magnesium cup wheels from the road car. Also fitted to this car is an integral anti-roll bar, a strut brace and an internal roll cage to stiffen the shell. These modifications cost the owner at the time over £13,000 but would certainly cost far more today. On top of all of these upgrades, it had been given a power upgrade to 285BHP. These upgrades ensure an invigorating, open-air driving experience, and the 4-wheel drive system instils confidence when applying power through corners.
