An approachable, turnkey race car based around the 993-generation 911, the GT2 swiftly became the backbone of the class after which it was named amid the ranks of the BPR Global GT Series and FIA GT Championship in the late-1990s. One of 10 GT2 Rs built in 1997, this Glacier White example is believed to have been first owned by Dutch driver René Snel. The car was crashed at Assen during 1999 and the chassis number transferred to a new shell.
The damaged shell was rebuilt and, by March 2001, the Porsche was campaigned by Euro GT Series champion Klaus Abbelen of Tönisvorst in Germany. Best known for creating the Frikadelli Racing team with his wife, Nordschleife hero Sabine Schmitz, he entered the 911 into numerous club-level events over the next four years at venues such as the Nürburgring, Hockenheim, and Monza.
The car was eventually acquired in 2014 by The Stuttgart Legends Collection via Freisinger Motorsport. Another rebuild required a replacement chassis structure to be welded in from the front bulkhead forward. Photographs of this partial restoration, carried out in 2017 by Peter Holzner of Waldkraiburg and totalling €20,885, are available to view on file. Please note: the car is being sold on its production number and without a chassis number, with no claims to its previous identity. The Porsche is also fitted with an engine of unknown type and origin.

When built to period specification by a new custodian, this GT2 R would be ripe to contest popular young-timer historic endurance race series such as Masters Endurance Legends and Peter Auto’s Endurance Racing Legends.
