1971 Porsche 911 E 2.2 CoupéMatching Numbers | Original Silver Metallic | Redtek Engine Rebuild | Rare 1971 Specification
A beautifully restored and exceptionally well-sorted 1971 Porsche 911 E 2.2 Coupé, presented in its original Silver Metallic with black interior.
One of just 1,088 Porsche 911 E Coupés produced for the 1971 model year, this car represents an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire one of the most desirable versions of the long-bonnet 911.
Its specification makes it rarer still.
This is a left-hand-drive, matching-numbers example that retains its original engine and is finished in its original factory Silver Metallic. While no authoritative production breakdown exists showing exactly how many of the 1,088 1971 E Coupés were originally finished in silver, surviving cars combining this colour, matching-numbers status and a high-quality restoration are seldom encountered.
Today, only 133 Porsche 911s manufactured in 1971 are recorded as either licensed or SORN in the United Kingdom — a figure covering every 1971 911 derivative, not only the much rarer 911 E Coupé.
Matching Numbers and Original Colour
The car retains its original matching-numbers engine, which has been comprehensively rebuilt by renowned air-cooled Porsche specialist Nick Fulljames of Redtek.
The body has undergone an extensive restoration and was returned to its original Silver Metallic finish. More recently, both sides of the car have been professionally repainted to ensure a consistent colour match and a high-quality finish throughout.
The result is a particularly elegant example of the early 911, with the restrained Silver Metallic paintwork perfectly complementing the purity of the long-bonnet body.
Significant Recent Mechanical and Cosmetic Investment
Since acquisition, further substantial work has been undertaken to improve the car’s authenticity, presentation and driving quality.
The mechanical fuel injection system has been professionally refurbished, an important piece of work on any early 911 E and central to ensuring the engine delivers the crisp throttle response and character for which the mechanically injected E is renowned.
The clutch has also been replaced.
The suspension has been returned to correct factory ride height, restoring the stance, visual balance and chassis set-up originally intended by Porsche.
Together with the recent paintwork, these improvements have addressed the principal areas that matter to an informed buyer of an early 911: engine, fuel injection, clutch, chassis set-up, body, paint and interior.

The 911 E
The 911 E occupies a particularly appealing position in the history of the early Porsche 911.
Introduced as the sophisticated, mechanically fuel-injected model between the 911 T and 911 S, the E combines the lightness and delicacy of the long-bonnet chassis with strong performance, refinement and exceptional usability.
Only 1,088 E Coupés were produced for the 1971 model year, substantially limiting the pool of genuine examples before consideration is given to originality, matching-numbers status, colour or condition.
This car’s combination of original Silver Metallic, matching-numbers engine, extensive restoration and significant specialist mechanical work makes it an especially compelling example.
The matching-numbers Redtek-rebuilt engine is a major feature of the car. The subsequent refurbishment of the mechanical fuel injection system has further improved its drivability and ensures that the car can be properly enjoyed rather than simply collected.
Returning the suspension to factory ride height has restored the car’s original stance and visual character, while the recent repainting of both sides has ensured a consistent finish across the body.
The result is a rare, highly attractive and properly sorted early 911 E that combines originality, provenance and usability.
With comparatively few 1971 911s of any derivative remaining on UK registration records — and substantially fewer surviving as genuine, matching-numbers E Coupés in their original colour — opportunities to acquire an example of this quality and specification are increasingly scarce.
