The Porsche 911 SC was introduced for the 1978 model year as a new chapter in the development of the classic air-cooled 911. At a time when Porsche was rationalising the 911 range, the SC became the sole naturally aspirated 911 model and combined the traditional rear-engined layout with the proven 3.0-litre flat-six and five-speed manual transmission.
The SC built on the development of the earlier Carrera 3.0 and used an aluminium-cased version of Porsche’s air-cooled flat-six. Over its production life, the model was continuously refined, with European-market output increasing during the model run. For the 1980 model year, the 3.0-litre engine produced 188 hp, giving the SC strong performance while retaining the mechanical simplicity and characteristic driving experience of the earlier 911 generations.
The combination of relatively low weight, unassisted steering, the air-cooled flat-six and the traditional 911 chassis makes the SC one of the most recognisable expressions of the classic 911 formula. Today, the model occupies an important position between the earlier impact-bumper Carreras and the later 3.2 Carrera and has become an established classic in its own right.
Our 911 SC Coupé left the factory on 7 April 1980, finished in Z2 Silver Metallic with an 01 Black leatherette interior with black cloth seat centres. Its history is exceptionally well documented through the original service book and an extensive collection of supporting documentation spanning more than four decades.
The car had two known owners in Germany before making its way to Finland. It was already in Finnish ownership before its official Finnish registration on 10 March 1995, as its Finnish owner was living in Germany at the time. Since then, the car has benefited from exceptionally long-term ownership in Finland, as well as year-round indoor storage over the past decades.
The continuity and quality of its maintenance history are among the strongest aspects of this example. Throughout its life, the car has been serviced almost exclusively within the Porsche network, with the most recent major work carried out by Porsche specialist Autohuolto Lindqvist.
The car has also seen remarkably modest use since arriving in Finland. The service history records 179,666 km in June 1993, compared with 226,800 km today, meaning it has covered only approximately 47,000 km over the past 33 years.
Its careful ownership and storage are clearly reflected in its condition today. Mechanically, the car is in exceptionally fine condition, while the body is remarkably clean and well preserved. The underside is particularly impressive, with the floorpan, chassis and surrounding structures presenting exceptionally neatly for a 46-year-old 911.
The car was repainted in 1995, while its interior and overall specification have remained largely original. The exterior still presents beautifully today and, together with the well-preserved interior, gives the car a very attractive and authentic overall appearance. In May 2013, at 223,993 km, it was inspected and approved for the Finnish museum vehicle register, providing an additional independent record of its specification and condition.
Despite covering only a few thousand kilometres in recent years, significant investment has been made to keep the car mechanically at a high standard. In 2019, at 224,661 km, Porsche Center Helsinki carried out an extensive €12,500 programme of work, including the 220,000 km major service, new front shock absorbers, suspension and axle work, engine oil tubes and seals, brake and steering work, as well as a new genuine Porsche exhaust system.
Most recently, in August 2026, Porsche specialist Autohuolto Lindqvist carried out a further €5,487.47 of mechanical work, including the installation of a new clutch and associated maintenance.
Altogether, we estimate that approximately €20,000 has been invested in servicing and mechanical work during just the last few thousand kilometres. With its extensive documented history, two known German owners, exceptionally long-term Finnish ownership, careful storage and impressive mechanical and structural condition, this is a particularly well-preserved example of the 911 SC.
The car is fully prepared and ready to be driven and enjoyed by its next caretaker.
