The Porsche 968 represents the pinnacle of Porsche’s transaxle era, which began with the 924 in 1976. Produced between 1992 and 1995, only 12,776 examples of the 968 model line were built worldwide. Of these, it is believed that 4,374 were Cabriolets, making it one of the rarest regular-production front-engined Porsches ever built. Even fewer examples were equipped with the desirable 6-speed manual gearbox, making manual Cabriolets particularly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts today.
An interesting detail unique to the 968 Cabriolet is its manufacturing process. All 968 Cabriolets began life as Coupé bodyshells at Porsche’s factory before being transported to ASC in Heilbronn, Germany, where they were converted into Cabriolet form. Following the conversion process, the cars were returned to Porsche’s Zuffenhausen factory for final assembly alongside the 911 and 928 model lines.
Power comes from Porsche’s 3.0-litre M44/43 16-valve inline-four engine producing 240 horsepower, paired with the desirable G44/00 6-speed manual transmission. Equipped with Porsche’s VarioCam variable valve timing system, the 968 delivers strong performance, excellent drivability and a uniquely engaging driving experience. Thanks to its transaxle layout and near-perfect weight distribution, the 968 is widely regarded as one of the finest handling front-engined Porsches ever produced.
This example is finished in Schwarz Metallic (L738) over a black leather interior and was delivered new on 4 September 1992 through Porsche Center Otto Glückler in Frankfurt. Factory equipment includes heated seats, air conditioning, the upgraded sound system with additional amplifier and the desirable 17-inch Cup-look wheels.
The car benefits from a well-documented ownership and maintenance history spanning more than three decades. It spent its early life in Germany, where it was serviced exclusively by official Porsche Centres in Frankfurt and Hofheim with regular maintenance recorded from new. In 2004, the car was exported to Sweden, where it remained in long-term ownership and continued to receive specialist maintenance through Porsche Center Stockholm and independent Porsche workshops. The car was imported to Finland in June 2022 and has since been maintained to a high standard with a focus on preventative maintenance and long-term ownership.
Significant recent maintenance includes a major service in 2022 covering brakes, belts and pulleys, spark plugs, oils, fluids and filters. The most recent service was completed in June 2026 at 156,948 km and included an engine oil and filter service, brake fluid replacement and installation of a new voltage regulator.
