The vehicle in detail

Chassis No. WP0ZZZ96ZPS815121

Introduced in 1993, the Porsche 968 Club Sport represented the most focused expression of Porsche’s front-engined, four-cylinder transaxle platform. Conceived for drivers seeking maximum engagement, the Club Sport stripped away comfort features in favor of reduced weight and mechanical simplicity. Offered exclusively as a coupe and produced for just three years, with total production limited to 1,538 examples, the 968 Club Sport remains one of the most desirable transaxle-era Porsches gaining popularity amongst enthusiasts and collectors in Europe with each passing year.

Power came from one of the largest production four-cylinder engines ever built, displacing 2,990 cc and equipped with a 16-valve cylinder head and Porsche’s VarioCam variable valve-timing system. Output was rated at 240 PS and 305 Nm of torque. Approximately 50 kg lighter than a standard 968, the Club Sport featured Recaro bucket seats, deleted rear seating, reduced sound deadening, and a suspension with a 20-mm lower ride height.

The thorough history file for this German-market 968 Club Sport reveals that it was finished in the highly desirable shade of Maritime Blue. Interestingly, except for Black, which retained standard silver-painted wheels, the standard Club Sport specification called for body-color-matched Cup Design wheels, which this example wears with aplomb. Options selected at the time of ordering included a limited-slip differential, air conditioning, and a Blaupunkt Paris RCR 41 radio. Fortunately, the optional tilt roof panel was not selected, providing a clean look across the roof, less weight, and additional headroom.

The original service book records that it was first delivered to Porsche Zentrum Niederrhein in December 1992 but not sold to its first private owner until 12 months later in December 1993. The Club Sport’s Fahrzeugbrief reveals that it remained with its first private owner for 11 years, with servicing at Porsche Niederrhein. It was acquired by its second owner in October 2004 and later de-registered for road use in 2006 as noted in the Fahrzeugbrief. Later, the Maritime Blue lightweight 968 CS was acquired by the consignor from Springbok Sportwagen in 2012 with just 71,393 kilometers recorded.

While in the consignor’s care, the car, now quite a collectible transaxle model, has been lightly used, with only 5,500 km added in the past 14 years and features an air conditioning service in June 2025. While the sales contract from 2012 notes that the car shows signs of a repaint in its original shade of Maritime Blue, no previous incidents are known and the car retains a clean European CARFAX report and a TÜV inspection valid until April 2028. Otherwise, the Club Sport remains remarkably original. Its interior is unmodified, retaining cloth-covered Recaro Pole Position seats with Maritime Blue seatbacks, and the only known change is the Cargraphic exhaust.

Upon its debut, Porsche called the 968 Club Sport a “sporting instrument with everyday qualities,” and this well-preserved example remains true to that philosophy, combining genuine lightweight specification, a vivid 1990s color, and everyday usability.
