Porsche 993 Carrera

Coupé, 1994

Highlights

  • RIVIERA BUILD
  • COMPLETE MECHANICAL OVERHAUL BY GT ONE
  • DETAILED HISTORY

This right-hand-drive 993 Carrera 2 benefits from an extensive history file documenting its life well before the restomod project began. The accompanying paperwork shows that the car was maintained and cared for as a conventional 993 for many years before its transformation.

Riviera Autobody completed the original exterior and interior transformation, introducing the Meissen Blue finish, widened arches, bespoke front bumper, ducktail rear spoiler and distinctive carbon fibre double-bubble roof. All exterior rubbers were renewed as part of the work, while the cabin was completely redesigned to complement the car’s individual specification.

The vehicle in detail

GT One carried out the extensive engine and mechanical programme, with invoices totalling approximately £50,000. The air-cooled flat-six was removed, fully dismantled and rebuilt, accompanied by work to the clutch and supporting components. The suspension was overhauled with Koni Sport dampers, while the front and rear braking systems were also completely refreshed.

Invoices documenting the Riviera Autobody build, GT One mechanical work and recent retrim are accompanied by a comprehensive history file predating the conversion, providing a clear record of the car’s development.

EXTERIOR

Finished in Meissen Blue, the wider bodywork gives the car a low and purposeful stance without losing the simplicity of the original design. A bespoke front bumper sits neatly beneath the familiar round headlights, while deeper side skirts and widened arches create a more planted appearance. Carbon fibre double-bubble roof adds another bespoke element to the conversion while the sculpted ducktail and updated full-width light panel provide a clean finish, complemented by twin polished exhaust outlets.

Grey lower-body stripes with bright orange Porsche lettering introduce a period motorsport influence, tying in neatly with the orange brake calipers. Presentation is excellent throughout, with the paintwork retaining a consistent gloss across the bespoke bodywork. Panel fit and alignment are equally impressive, while all exterior rubbers were renewed by Riviera Autobody as part of the build.

INTERIOR

The cabin has been completely transformed with a recent retrim extending throughout the passenger compartment. Black Alcantara and leather cover the sports seats, dashboard and door cards, with contrasting blue and orange stitching adding definition throughout.

An Alcantara Momo steering wheel sits ahead of the familiar five-dial instrument cluster, accompanied by a manual gear lever and aluminium pedals. Blue seat belts and exposed Meissen Blue sections complete the bespoke finish, while the front luggage compartment is neatly presented in black cloth trim. Having been so recently completed, the interior presents in virtually unmarked condition throughout.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

The 3.6-litre air-cooled flat-six offers strong tractability throughout the rev range and remains central to the character that makes the 993 so rewarding to drive. The engine and transmission were removed as part of an extensive mechanical programme completed by Porsche specialists GT One.

The engine was fully dismantled, cleaned and inspected before being rebuilt with new crankshaft bearings, piston rings, camshaft chains and guides. Its cylinder heads were also overhauled with replacement valve guides. Further work included a new RS clutch and flywheel, alternator, starter motor, oil thermostat and fuel pump.

Forming part of an overall mechanical investment of approximately £50,000, the programme ensures the car’s performance matches the quality of its bespoke exterior and interior. Just 1,809 miles have been covered since the GT One rebuild was completed.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

Genuine lightweight Otto Fuchs alloy wheels sit beautifully beneath the widened arches, with satin black centres and polished outer rims reinforcing the car’s classic Porsche character. All four tyres retain a good level of tread, while orange Porsche calipers and cross-drilled discs provide a flash of colour behind each wheel.

GT One’s mechanical programme extended throughout the chassis, with Koni Sport dampers installed as part of a comprehensive suspension overhaul. The front and rear braking systems were also fully stripped and rebuilt, ensuring the handling and stopping performance received the same level of attention as the engine and transmission.
